Compression Reducing Coupler
A reducing coupler is used to join two different sizes of drip irrigation tubing. This is useful when adding to existing drip irrigation systems. Compression fitting inserts are color coded according to specific sizes.
- Green insert - .620"
- Black insert - .700"
- Blue insert - .710"
Often used by irrigation contractors, compression fittings are very economical and do not require clamps or gluing. Because of this, the fittings can be more difficult to install and are not removable/reusable. Compression fittings install over the poly tubing and are size specific for your tubing outside diameter.Compression fittings for low pressure drip irrigation are quite popular because they are very economical and found just about everywhere you can buy irrigation supplies. However, they can be difficult to install and are specifically sized for the outside dimensions of your low density polyethylene irrigation tubing. We'd all like to think this would be fairly simple, but the non-standardization of tubing sizes in the drip irrigation industry have made this somewhat difficult. Tubing sizes are listed in simple nominal sizes, like 1/8", 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" and 1", but they do not all have the same exact inside and outside diameters in the same nominal size category. An example of this is the 1/2" category -- there are several different actual sizes in this category.
1/2" - O.D. .620" x I.D. .520"
1/2" - O.D. .630" x I.D. .540"
1/2" - O.D. .700" x I.D .600"
1/2" - O.D. .710" x I.D. .620"
So pay close attention to your tubing dimensions when selecting compatible compression fittings.
For other size or configuration options we carry PVC x Compression Insert Adapters. The compression insert adapters glue into standard PVC slip fittings.
