Customer Testimonials "Thank you, Drip Depot! We had spent four frustrating days getting conflicting advice from "free design assistance" people at your competitors before we found you. You simplified the entire system, made it understandable to us, reviewed our order for errors, and saved us hundreds of dollars. Bless you for your EXCELLENT SERVICE!! "
This gravity fed drip irrigation kit is designed to work with a non-pressurized water source such as a pond, reservoir, barrel or cistern. The drip emitters have been replaced with 1/4" ball valves. The problem of having drip emitter water channels blocked with debris as been eliminated by using 1/4" ball valves instead of drip emitters. Ball valves have a larger orifice for water to pass through and therefore are more tolerant of dirty water. This kit will operate from any water reservoir where a siphon can be created. ie, the water source must be higher than the highest point you intend to water. As long as a siphon can be created and maintained, this kit will continue to deliver water at the set levels you choose for each watering point.
Unlike traditional drip irrigation kits that have preset GPH ratings, this kit has infinite flexibly at the cost of exactness. To set the drip speed for this kit you "eye-ball" the drip rate at each point and make adjustments as needed. This kit comes complete with everything you need to hook up to any standard male (MHT) hose end. The tubing can be cut with simple scissors or utility knife. You can also simply use the bare end of the 1/2" tubing submersed in water to create the siphon.
This kit comes standard with a 3/4" hose thread filter, if you have very dirty water such as a pond or reservoir then you would be well advised to check and clean your filter regularly. The 1/4” valves are very forgiving and can be blown out if clogged but they will clog with silt or algae and you do not want your system to be sporadic in operation. Cleaner water sources such as a cistern or bucket can usually get by with cleaning the filter once per month. If you are unsure about your water clarity, inspecting the filter regularly is never a bad decision.
If your water source is fairly clean, you can also use any non-pressure compensating drip emitter (button or flag) with this system. The output of emitters will vary according to the pressure created by your siphon. Elevation changes in tubing can affect performance. Many people use a combination of drip emitters as well as valves for more flexibility and less manual adjustment time. If drip emitters are used, a filter must be installed at the head of the system. Non-pressure compensating cleanable button drippers can be disassembled and cleaned so they are a good choice if you have dirty water. Microsprinklers and spray jets will not work with this system.
